The Best Brushing Technique for Your Smile

Posted .

Do you brush your teeth twice a day—every morning and every night? If so, good for you! Now, do you brush properly? Brushing properly is essential when cleaning your smile because you need to make sure to remove the harmful substances from your teeth and gums regularly. So, to help you properly brush, Dr. Steven Wolfson has some instructions for you.

First, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste that has been approved by the American Dental Association. Then, place the paste on the toothbrush bristles and then hold the brush at a 45-degree angle to the gumline.

Now, move the brush in circular motions across the front surfaces of the teeth. Then, brush the top surfaces of the teeth by scrubbing back and forth. Finally, brush the inside surfaces of the teeth by holding the brush at a vertical angle and using the top bristles to scrub. Make sure you thoroughly clean each tooth.

As you clean near the gum line, please be gentle. If you’re rough near the gums, the brushing can irritate and even damage them. When you’re done brushing for two minutes, scrub the tongue, spit the toothpaste into the sink, rinse your toothbrush, and then rinse your mouth.
