Softer Is Better

Posted .

When it comes to your teeth and the health of your mouth, softer is better. Both in your toothbrush and how hard you use that toothbrush, if you choose to go harder you could do damage to your mouth.

Our dentist, Dr. Steven Wolfson, understands the common problems people run into with brushing their teeth, and is happy to help you. Our team at Steven Wolfson, DDS in Houston, Texas, wants to share with you a few tips when it comes to brushing so you can have a healthy smile.

When picking out a brush, do not pick a brush with hard bristles. Soft bristles are almost always a better choice for you and your teeth. Hard bristled brushes can potentially cause damage to the protective outer layer of your teeth that helps your teeth fight against cavities and gum disease.

When you brush your teeth, be careful with how much pressure you use. If you brush too hard, even with a soft-bristle brush, you can do damage to your teeth. It is important to be gentle as you brush, especially where your gums and teeth meet.
